What is the focus when it comes to following a bodybuilding contest prep program?
If you are interested in stepping on stage at a bodybuilding competition there are a few things that you need to take into consideration.
- What division or category do you want to compete in?
- Where are you now in terms of body composition and where do you need to be?
- How long should you cut for before stepping on stage?
- What type of training should you implement in order to reach your potential for the category you want to compete in?
- What type of nutrition program should you be on?
What division or category do you want to compete in?
For men there are 3 main categories at the amateur/novice level:
- Mens Physique
- Classic Physique
- Bodybuilding
For women there are 5 main categories at the amateur/novice level:
- Fitness
- Bikini
- Figure
- Physique
- Bodybuilding
Competing the right way takes experience and patience. Most competitors do extreme 12-16 week programs causing them to lose muscle, experience hormonal imbalances, and create setbacks rather than healthy lifestyles.
A good coach will evaluate you based on your current body composition. From there they’ll put together a healthy body recomposition program that will allow you to maximize your potential for the category you want to compete in. Based on your current condition a good estimate can be created with healthy variables and strategies as to when you should be stepping on stage. The right program will include a weight training program that will allow you to build or maintain the lean muscle mass you need and a healthy effective nutrition program that is not a diet but a lifestyle type of eating.
If you need coaching to compete consider getting the hybrid or muscle building training package a long with private coaching sessions at least 2x’s per month to ensure you are progressing the right way. Competing in bodybuilding is a magnificent way to learn your body and understand what it takes to maintain a healthy body for the rest of your life.
